Choosing the Right Weather Sound

Use each weather type according to distance, intensity, and the location of the listener. Light rain on a window works well for interiors, quiet dialogue, study scenes, and reflective moments. Heavy rain on a roof can make a room feel smaller and more enclosed, while steady outdoor rain is better for streets, forests, travel, and longer environmental backgrounds.

Distant thunder should sit behind the rain rather than overpower it. Keep the thunder quieter and less bright when the storm is far away, then increase weight and detail only when the visuals show the storm moving closer. Windy storm atmosphere works well for exposed roads, coastlines, damaged buildings, and scenes where the weather should feel less stable.

Using the Pack in Videos and Games

Start with one continuous rain layer, then add thunder or wind only when the scene needs a change in tension. For dialogue, lower the constant rain and leave space around important speech. For games, use lighter weather in safe areas and stronger storm layers when the player enters exposed, dangerous, or dramatic locations.
